What do I need to do to improve my chances of getting into Harvard or Stanford?

Do you even know what you want to major in? If you don't, you shouldn't be picking out colleges yet. There are a lot of colleges that are far better than Harvard or Stanford at certain majors, and you'd be doing yourself a disservice to attend a school for its "brand name" over the academic quality of the actual department.
