What do you consider "success"?

I am a freshman in college and I really want to become a high school history teacher where I live in California. When people ask me what I want to be and I tell them, they look at me with a deranged looked like "In California? In this economy? Your retarded, wake up." Is it going to be hard to find a job? Sure. But the way I look at it, all the sacrifices and hardships that I encounter will be worth it. I enjoy talking about history. I kick at it (if I can say so myself.) It has always interested me. I know teachers don't get paid a lot, but sometimes it's not about the money. I think if I became a teacher I would consider myself a success. I would be doing what I like to do. What do you guys think?
