In north korea why cant the people live tho the top of the county thought china an russia?

i see the DMZ that splits south an north an bla bla but why not just go to the top where russia an china is to leave the country or attack NK i mean if the DMZ is so heavily armed with troops an mines why go the other way through china and russia or whats the promblem??
