Why are people insisting on destroying Beautiful hymns?

More and more of the churches wonderful hymns are being watered down, changed even eliminated from worship. In the Garden sung as just part of a medley. What really saddens me is Amazing Grace chopped up with this my chains are gone, totally destroying this time tested wonderful hymn. Even the last verse, the most meaningful, gone. If someone wished to write a hymn saying my chains are gone......... fine let them, why destroy amazing grace?
